T
he No. 2-ranked Irish women's
basketball team concluded its
three games in three days slate Nov.
24 at the Purcell Pavilion with a 112-
52 victory versus Quinnipiac in the
Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall
of Fame Women's Challenge held at
campus sites.
The previous two nights, head coach
Muffet McGraw's squad had romped
past Holy Cross (104-29) and Harvard
(97-43). The purpose of playing three
consecutive nights was three-fold.
One was as a form of preparation
to knowing what it is to play on short
rest, like the three games in three
days ACC Tournament in March. Two
was to hone the skills, teamwork and
chemistry — with different lineups
— of all 12 Irish players in live game
atmospheres. Three was to tune up for
the rugged non-conference December
slate that actually began Nov. 30 by
playing Kansas at Uncasville, Conn.,
to conclude the Naismith Challenge.
That follows with No. 10 Maryland
at Fort Wayne, Ind., (Dec. 3); hosting
No. 3 and reigning champ UConn
(Dec. 6); traveling to No. 18 DePaul
(Dec. 10); and then finishing the month
with Michigan (Dec. 13), St. Joseph's
(Dec. 21) and the road trip to UCLA
(Dec. 28).
Against Quinnipiac, junior guard
Jewell Loyd and freshman forward
Women's Basketball Climbs
To No. 2 With 6-0 Start
Freshman Kathryn Westbeld recorded a double-
double (10 points and 12 rebounds) in just 16
minutes during Notre Dame's 112-52 victory over
Quinnipiac on Nov. 24.
