HOCKEY (6-6-2, 2-2-2 HOCKEY EAST) In a rare Thursday-Friday series, Notre Dame dropped the opener against UMass Lowell 3-1 Nov. 20, before forcing a 2-2 tie the following night. Controversial referee decisions gave the River Hawks a score and cost the Irish another in the second tilt. Nonetheless, Notre Dame held Lowell, the highest-scoring team in the country, below its average of 4.0 goals per game. WOMEN'S SOCCER (14-6-2, 7-2-1 ACC) Notre Dame's 22nd consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament ended with a 2-1 loss to No. 5 Texas A&M Nov. 23 in the third round. Freshman forward Karin Muya notched the lone Irish goal off a corner kick courtesy of freshman defender Sabrina Flores late in the second half. Muya also scored in the second round, in a 2-1 victory against Texas Nov. 21. Muya also assisted on the other Notre Dame goal against the Longhorns. MEN'S SOCCER (12-4-4, 6-1-1 ACC) Notre Dame's hopes of defending its national championship stayed alive with a 2-1 victory over Ohio State Nov. 23 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Sophomore defender Brandon Aubrey gave the Irish a 1-0 first-half lead before freshman forward Jon Gallagher provided the winning tally in the match's 69th minute. Notre Dame stands two matches, both at home, away from the College Cup. The Irish were slated to take on ACC nemesis Virginia Nov. 30. VOLLEYBALL (6-22, 3-14 ACC) With consecutive losses to North Carolina and North Carolina State Nov. 21 and 23, respectively, Notre Dame found itself in its fourth losing streak this season of four games or longer.
