FENCING
The Notre Dame men's and women's programs swept the team competition 3-0 at the ACC Champion-
ships Feb. 21 in Chapel Hill, N.C. This was the first year the ACC has held a women's team championship,
making the Irish victory one for the history books.
Both programs continued their success at the NCAA Midwest Regional March 7 at Evanston, Ill., advanc-
ing 12 entrants to the NCAA Championships March 19-22 in Columbus, Ohio.
MEN'S LACROSSE (3-1, 0-0 ACC)
Freshman Mikey Wynne helped boost Notre Dame to a 3-0 start, but the No. 3 Irish suffered an 11-10
defeat in overtime at No. 4 Denver March 7. Junior Matt Kavanagh led the Irish with 22 points during the
first four contests, contributing 12 assists and 10 goals.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE (3-3, 0-2 ACC)
The 16th-ranked Irish opened league play by falling 17-3 at Duke and 15-6 at Boston College. Sopho-
more Cortney Fortunato led Notre Dame in scoring through six games, with 22 points on 15 goals and
seven assists.
MEN'S TENNIS (6-5, 0-2 ACC)
Notre Dame opened the season 6-1, peaking at No. 17 in the polls before dropping four straight
matches to Ohio State, Illinois, Virginia Tech and Louisville in late February and early March. The Irish
Notre Dame captured the inaugural ACC women's fencing championship.
