CAVALIER CORNER: You have been a part of some very accomplished relay teams during ACC and NCAA competition. Which team was the most special to you? WILLIAMSON: "I would definitely say that this past NCAA's 400 medley relay was my favorite that I was ever on. We were seeded first going into NCAAs. It was basically going to be between us, Stanford and Cal. Stanford had a world champion and Missy Franklin, who is obviously an Olym- pian, so we knew we had to be pretty far ahead if we were going to pull out the win in that one. "We were ahead the entire time, but Stanford caught us in the final 100. Us, Stanford and Cali- fornia all went under the previous American re- cord, the previous NCAA record and the previous U.S. Open record, so it was one of the fastest relays to ever happen at NCAAs. It was a crazy honor to be a part of such a relay battle." CAVALIER CORNER: The women's swim team finished fifth at NCAA Championships this year, which was the highest in program history. What was it like to be a part of such a thrilling week- end? WILLIAMSON: "It's kind of crazy to think about it now, just a couple of weeks later. Espe- cially looking at the basketball NCAA Tourna- ment, and knowing that we were the fifth-best swimming team in the country is just an incred- ible thing to wrap your head around. "We swam so well that weekend and we're all really proud of that." CAVALIER CORNER: What is your training routine like during the season? WILLIAMSON: "We do a lot of training. As a team, we usually have two or three doubles per week, and train Monday through Saturday, trying to incorporate some running and some weights in there to mix it up a little bit. "It is a big time commitment. We all went through this in high school, so we're used to bud- geting our time." CAVALIER CORNER: What is your favorite thing about attending school at the University of Virginia? WILLIAMSON: "The University of Virginia strives for excellence, both athletics and academ- ics. I don't feel like I'm just a swimmer or just student here, and it is really easy to excel at both. I think that has been a really cool aspect of pick- ing UVa to swim. "Also the history of UVa that not a lot of other schools have has been really special." — Drew Goodman Doug McQuade has experienced the best of all worlds during his affiliation with the University of Virginia. McQuade graduated from UVa in 1977 with a B.S. in commerce, which laid the foundation for a 37-year career in public accounting with KPMG LLP in Roanoke, Va. "UVa provided me a great education in account- ing, which enabled me to obtain a position with a 'Big Four' accounting firm and the background and knowledge to be successful in my career," he said. During his undergraduate years at Virginia, Mc- Quade developed an affinity for the athletics pro- gram. As a result, McQuade: • Has been a VAF donor for 32 consecutive years. • Has been a football season ticket holder for 22 straight years. • Became a men's basketball season ticket holder two years ago.
