The Virginia Athletics Foundation elected officers for the 2015 Board of Trustees and named three new members to the class of 2017. Scott Dockter of Atlanta, Ga., will serve a second term as president and Bill Tyson of Richmond, Va., will continue as vice president. Bart Farinholt of Richmond, Va., is the immediate past president. Newly elected members of the class of 2017 include Cindy Brinker Simmons of Dallas, Texas, Edmund F. Garno III of Haverford, Pa., and Michael S. Geismar of Charlottesville, Va. CINDY BRINKER SIMMONS Cindy Brinker Simmons graduated from the University of Virginia in 1979 with a bachelor of arts in communications and Spanish. She was a member of the tennis team during her four years (serving as captain) and the cross country team for her last three. She was recognized as "Female Athlete of the Year" and selected as an IMP Society member. Ms. Brinker Simmons has had a distinguished career in public relations. She founded Brinker Communications in 1986 and, in 2004, merged her company with Levenson Pub- lic Relations to form Levenson & Brinker Public Relations, a full-service strategic communications company. In 2012, Ms. Brinker Simmons took a sabbatical and is writing her second book. In 1980, she founded Wipe Out Kids' Cancer, one of Dallas' largest pediatric cancer non-profit organizations. She is president of the Maureen Connolly Brinker Tennis Foundation, a leading worldwide junior tennis organization. Additionally, she serves on the boards of Dallas Theological Seminary and East-West Ministries International. She has received numerous philanthropic awards. EDMUND F. GARNO III Ed Garno graduated from the University of Virginia in 1991 with a degree in Rheto- ric & Communication Studies. He was a first-team All-ACC punter for the Cavaliers, and played in the Citrus, Sugar and Gator Bowls. Ed was a three-time academic All- ACC and an Honorable Mention All-American, as well as a member of St. Anthony Hall fraternity. Mr. Garno has spent his career developing businesses in the employee benefits and risk management industries. In 1999, Ed and his partners formed Trion, a Philadelphia- based firm that offers employee benefit solutions to a variety of organizations across the country.
