UNDER THE DOME Irish student‑athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Jade Barber — Track & Field After finishing in ninth place in the 60‑meter hurdles with a time of 8.18 seconds to earn second‑team All‑America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships March 13‑14, the senior broke her own school record in the 100‑meter hurdles at the Texas Relays March 28. Her time of 12.81 seconds smashed her old mark of 12.93 seconds and ranked as the third‑best time posted nationally as of mid‑April. Cortney Fortunato — Lacrosse The sophomore attack/midfielder earned both national and ACC Player of the Week honors April 7, after contributing six goals and two assists in Notre Dame's 14‑4 rout at No. 4 Virginia April 4. The Irish victory was the program's most lop‑ sided over a ranked team since 2004, and their first win over the Cavaliers in school history. Through April 20, she ranked first in the ACC in points per game (4.43) and second in goals per game (3.43). Katey Haus — Softball The senior infielder picked up Co‑ACC Player of the Week honors April 7, earning the distinction for the second time this season. She led the Irish to a perfect 4‑0 mark the previous week, hitting .500 (7 for 14) with six runs scored, two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI. Through 48 games, she was hit‑ ting .401 with a team‑leading 11 home runs and 47 RBI. Ryan Smoyer — Baseball The sophomore right‑hander tossed a complete game shut‑ out against Eastern Michigan (6‑0) March 31 and threw four and one‑third innings in relief to earn another victory at Pitts‑ burgh (7‑3) April 5 en route to Co‑ACC Pitcher of the Week honors April 7. In his next outing April 10, he scattered five hits over seven innings to lead the Irish past No. 7 Florida State (5‑2). Through April 20, he sported a 6‑0 record and 2.11 ERA in 11 appearances (six starts). TOP OF THE CLASS
