Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer
wasn't going to go down without a
fight. The only problem was, he already
had lost the battle.
When Cleveland St. Ignatius three-
star offensive tackle Liam Eichenberg ar-
rived in Columbus, Ohio, for the Buck-
eyes' spring game April 18, there wasn't
much that Meyer could say. The coach
with three national championship rings
had a chance at a final pitch, but Eichen-
berg already knew where he was going
to school, and it wasn't Ohio State.
"I just couldn't pass up on a Notre
Dame education," Eichenberg said
when asked why he picked the Irish
over the in-state Buckeyes. "I had a great
trip to Notre Dame, and I liked every-
thing about the environment and coach-
ing staff."
Eichenberg, who was first offered
by Ohio State before he even played at
varsity snap at St. Ignatius, had been
a longtime target of Meyer and the
Buckeyes. He visited the Big Ten school
numerous times over the course of the
past two years, and while Meyer's staff
