"He said it's a committable offer, and this letter is on gold paper, so it's as good as gold. It was very cool, and from then on out we were on cloud nine." Almost immediately, the 2017 line- man was ready to go home and talk over a potential decision with his other family members. "That was a crazy feeling," Gibbons said. "We talked about it when I got home, and I decided to sleep on it. When I woke up, I had Notre Dame on my mind, and I just knew that was it." With his mind made up, Gibbons got in touch with Kelly on the eve- ning of April 4 and revealed his de- cision. "I told Coach Kelly that I wanted to be one of his guys and his first commit in the 2017 class," Gibbons said. "He said I made his day, which is crazy to me for a man of his stature." February 2017 — when Gibbons can sign a National Letter of Intent, mak- ing his commitment binding — is a long ways off for the still-sophomore in high school. But Irish fans don't have to hold their breath. According to the first- team 2A all-state lineman, he's not even considering taking visits to other schools, despite other early offers from Ohio State, Michigan State, South Car- olina, Louisville and Kentucky, among others. Gibbons plans to just keep hard at work going forward, growing his skill set and game so he can live out his childhood dream — suiting up for the Fighting Irish in Notre Dame Stadium. ✦ 1-800-421-7751 • www.BlueGoldOnline.com Notre Dame "Eglomise" Framed Print $59.95 FREE S&H* Notre Dame "Eglomise" style digital photos reproduce the transparency effect of an image reverse-painted on glass.
