FOOTBALL RECRUITING Irish Invasion Key For Staff In college football recruiting, ev- ery head coach is looking to gain an advantage — whether it's one that gives them an edge scouting or helps them lock up elite talent. Penn State's James Franklin made headlines last summer when he announced that his staff would be working "satellite" camps in both Florida and Georgia. It was a notion at the time that was met with much scrutiny from coaches around the country, given the Nit- tany Lions unprecedented access to recruits, but it's one that has also been copied. Both Nebraska and Michigan have announced that they will be doing satellite camps this summer as well. While the idea looks like it will become the next recruiting fad, don't count Notre Dame in as a believer just yet. Irish head coach Brian Kelly said April 18 that the Irish wouldn't be doing any satellite camps this summer. The Atlanta Journal Con- stitution had previously reported that the coaching staff would be working the Georgia State camp in Atlanta. "No, we're not going off campus," Kelly said. "It will all be here; everything is going to be done here." While it's unclear what exactly happened with the Georgia State camp, it appears the Irish are more interested in getting recruits to South Bend than they are hitting the road to see them. That's what is making the 2015 version of the Irish Invasion one of the most important dates on the recruiting calendar. Notre Dame has already started handing out invites to the June 19 camp and a num- ber of prospects — including Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West five-star linebacker Caleb Kelly — have confirmed that they plan to attend the event. So while coaches from Nebraska, Michigan and Penn State will be touring the country in search of tal- ent, Kelly and his staff will counter by welcoming talent to South Bend. — Andrew Ivins IRISH INVASION VISITORS Tentative 5-star Fresno (Calif.)
