2015 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE "I like Coach Beilein's offense, re- ally," he said. "I just like how the point guard gets to control the game and be like the coach on the floor." "I'll see Xavier in June, then start making some official visits. I wanted to commit early, but then coaches started moving around. I want to make sure what I want to do." He expects to pledge sometime in the fall. JARRON CUMBERLAND 6-4 • 200 • SG Wilmington (Ohio) High Rivals.com No. 64 junior nationally Cumberland has been called the best scorer in the tal- ent-rich state of Ohio, and he didn't disagree after an impressive weekend at the Spiece Run-n-Slam event in Fort Wayne held May 1-3. He's not the most athletic player in his class — he just finds a way to put the ball in the bas- ket. Cumberland averaged 17.7 points per game as a freshman and 22.4 as a sophomore at Wilmington High. "I do believe I am the best scorer in the state," he said. "I can score whenever I want to, one-on-one with a mismatch. If I have a big man, I can take him out. Or if I have a little guy, I can put him in the post." Cumberland is planning a Michi- gan visit this summer, probably June. "I have offers from Cincinnati, Xavier, Purdue and Butler, and Mich- igan said they are going to offer me as well when I visit," he said. "Michi- gan said I can score and that they needed a scorer like me, and that I was tough. "I'm from Ohio, but I do like Mich- igan. It is a Big Ten school, my family likes it and it is one of the schools that I will think about. Coach LaVall [Jordan] keeps in touch with me and talks about how badly he needs me. I wasn't their primary guy, but he watched me in Lexington [April 24] and he said I could go, and how bad they want me now." Cumberland averaged 16.5 points for King James Shooting Stars, his first event with his new team, in Lex- ington, and then led the champion King James in scoring in the 17-and- under division of the Run 'N Slam, the event he won in the 16s division last year with Ohio Basketball Club. He scored 21 in the title-game win over the Illinois Wolves. Kansas, Michigan State, Indiana, Virginia, Texas, Miami (Fla.) and oth- ers have all called this spring, but it looks as though Michigan will have a great shot. C.J. WALKER 6-0 • 180 • PG Indianapolis Arsenal Tech Rivals.com No. 148 junior nationally Michigan's Derrick Walton Jr. will be a senior when a class of 2016 point guard enters the program, and Walker has made no secret of the fact that he wouldn't mind being an heir apparent. He's one of the faster risers in the junior class, having averaged 19.2 points and 2.6 assists per game
