wahoo nation LINDA RAMSEY • The Ramseys serve food in UVa gear, like stuffing a football helmet with potato chips. • They recently purchased a gas grill and Linda Ramsey, who received her master's degree from Virginia in 1971, admittedly has missed "very few games" since she began fol- lowing Cavaliers football 18 years ago. But she also missed one of the greatest plays in one of the greatest victories in the history of UVa football — the 33-28 triumph over Florida State in 1995 when Warrick Dunn was stopped inside the 1-yard line as time expired. "I could not watch the last three plays," Ramsey said. "I sat down with my head in my lap. "They were ranked No. 2 so it was very exciting." Virginia football runs deep in the Ramsey family. Daughters Ashley Blurton ('95) and Kerrington Molhoek ('97) — who earned her bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from UVa — became so enamored with football that they preferred to attend games instead of making the drive home to Chatham for weekends. Ramsey and her husband, Carlton, have been season-ticket holders since 1993. "The football attraction is a way for our family to get together," Ramsey said. "It's fun to have tailgate parties. We started and have had so much fun that we've never stopped. "We have different themes that we've used over the last 18 years." For example: • At orange and blue tailgate parties, only orange and blue food is served. • When one of the women in the family is expecting, a Baby Wahoo/UVa baby shower is held. Linda Ramsey and her daughters Ashley Blurton (left) and Kerrington Molhoek (right) have made tailgating at UVa football games a family tradition. There's more. "When Ashley had her bachelorette party in 2003, it involved a football game and go- ing to a tailgate party in Richmond," Ramsey said. "When Ashley and Matt got married on November 29, 2003, we had to pick that date because she was serving an internship [Ashley studied medicine at Wake Forest]. We played Virginia Tech that day at home. "The wedding was at 5:30 p.m. and, fortunately, it was a noon game and we beat Virginia Tech. She considered that a wedding present. "Kerrington, our younger daughter, had a boy last September," Ramsey added. "She was afraid she would miss some of the games. She went when she was 38 weeks pregnant, and post-partum [i.e. two weeks later] was back at a game." Ramsey also noted that Molhoek met her husband, Charlie, at a tailgate party and that Ashley's first date with Matt also was at a tailgate party. But the athletic program as a whole has left an indelible impression on Ramsey. "You have to be impressed with how they emphasize academics as well as sports," she said. "They're students first and athletes second. That's important to me." — Mike Scandura notable numbers Regional support backed by institutional strength Wells Fargo Private Bank offers the dedicated attention of our regional team backed by the strength, innovation and resources of the larger Wells Fargo organization.
