cavalier profile JAKE AND MATT SNYDER Second-Year and Fourth-Year • Football If Matt and Jake Snyder weren't motivated to help the Virginia Cavaliers get back to a bowl game this season already, there became no doubt in October when Matt, a fourth-year wide receiver, went down with an injury. Both Snyder brothers had been enjoying great seasons up to that point, with second-year defensive end Jake doing it on the other side of the ball in what very well could be the final season the former Deep Run High School stars from Glen Allen, Va., get to play together. As Jake grew into a defensive lineman's body — at 6-4, 275 pounds he has 30 ◆ CAVALIER CORNER 60 pounds on his older brother — he never stopped watching Matt play with a demeanor bigger than his size. Any tendency Matt had to pick on his younger brother as kids is more than forgiven these days while Jake watches him use his 6-5, 215-pound frame to his advantage against opposing defenders. "He tends to push it a little bit and he's a big receiver, too, so it's not like he's getting picked on out there," Jake said. "I feel like a lot of times he's out there picking on smaller corners and everything. He's kind of a bully out there, which I like. He's a nasty player, but obviously a great guy off the field." But Matt went down with a broken bone in his foot, leaving him on the sideline for at least six weeks. That meant the brothers have just one more opportunity to play a final game together, and that entails the Cavaliers making a bowl game. Jake was doing his part, playing big roles in upsets over Georgia Tech and Miami in October, including his first career sack against the Hurricanes. — Shane Mettlen ◆ Photo courtesy UVa
