title is a great accomplishment," Bosch said. "Getting third in the NCAAs is by far the highlight. There are a lot of people who didn't even think we were going to make top five, because we lost a great class and a lot of our freestylers. "It was just really, really awesome to see guys from the bottom step up. They're responsible for getting the third place, too. It's an unbelievable accomplishment." Michigan's freshmen stepped up as if they were amphibian. Freshman PJ Ransford finished second at the NCAAs in the 1,650-yard freestyle, his time of 14:34.36 less than two seconds from a national championship clocking. Meanwhile, with the Big Ten championships hanging in the balance, freshman Aaron Whitaker delivered a memorable performance to boost the Wolverines. He'd already finished second in the 100-yard butterfly and sixth in the 100-yard backstroke. He was then called upon to swim the 200-yard backstroke, which he hadn't done all season. Whitaker wound up finishing Junior Dylan Bosch, an 11-time NCAA All-American and a third-place finisher in the 200-yard butterfly at Nationals this year, was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Year.
