BY BRANDON BROWN K yle Mueller knew he had a chance to contribute to the Michigan men's golf team coming into his fresh- man season, but he wasn't sure to what degree. The Athens, Ga., native adapted to the cold and also to the rigors of being a student-athlete at the school remarkably well. "Coming to Michigan from Geor- gia was a big change weather-wise, and I didn't really know what to expect," Mueller said with a laugh. "My grandma actually bought me my first coat and it turns out I had to go back and buy a bigger one be- cause it wasn't warm enough. Even- tually I got used to it. "Golf-wise I didn't really have any expectations. I wanted to make the starting five as a freshman and didn't really know what to expect. I remem- ber showing up for my first day of practice and watching all of the guys hit balls and I was like, 'Wow, I'm pretty far behind.' I realized that the competition is way better than high school, but it makes you better. I feel like I was well prepared for college golf and I think I adapted pretty quickly.
