COMMITMENT PROFILE Michigan (from Georgia Southern) just two days before Gil, and both players knew it was going to happen while on the visit. "We talked about it the whole time," Gil said. "We talked about how being able to play together again and being able to help each other out in school would be a great situation. It's just going to make that transition to college easier because we are close. "With me and Josh going up there, I think we can do great things up in Michigan just like we're doing in high school." Metellus and Gil both plan on targeting Bush big time. Bush, who seems like a heavy Michigan lean is going to get the full-court press from both future Wolverine safeties. "I don't know if Devin is coming or not," Gil said. "That's his decision but I'm going to be all over his back to make sure he does come to Michi- gan. It seems like Flanagan is the new pipeline to Michigan. I'm trying to bring up everybody." Gil is listed as a safety, but he plays more like a linebacker. Wherever he plays, he is ready to do anything his coaches ask of him. "Whatever Coach Durkin wants me to do, I'll do," Gil said. "I feel like I'm a versatile player. If he needs me down in the box, I'll be in the box. If he wants me to cover, I'll cover. If he needs me to be the free safety, I'll handle it. It doesn't matter. They basically just said to come on in and I'll have a spot. Whatever it takes to win I'll do." — Brandon Brown FILM EVALUATION Strengths: Gil is listed as a safety but looks like he's going to grow into a linebacker. That said, his speed and quickness would become huge assets for him as an outside 'backer. He's extremely athletic and plays very well in space. Gil has added some bulk during the offseason but hasn't lost the quickness that allows him to run with most running backs and tight ends in space. Gil looks as if he has a bright future at a position he may not even be playing yet. Areas of Improvement: Because he's not a natural linebacker, he'll have to adjust to the responsibili- ties of playing in the box almost all the time if he indeed moves to that position. In high school, at 6-0, 204 pounds, he does come down in run support pretty often, so it's not foreign to him. However, in col- lege he'll have to adjust to what it takes to bang with 300-pounders and tackle running backs that are bigger than he is. Michigan Player Comparison: Because of his "tweener" build and skill set, Gil compares favorably to Cato June (1998-2002) who came to Michigan as a 6-1, 200-pound cor- nerback and left as a 6-1, 224-pound linebacker. Gil has the potential to start off in the secondary until he grows into a speedy, athletic line- backer. — Analysis from TheWolverine.com
