BASKETBALL RECRUITING a lot, but [in early July] a lot of new schools jumped in like Florida, TCU and Indiana." The Hoosiers offered after see- ing him in Atlanta, and he's hope- ful Michigan will be next. He played well at the U-M College Practice Camp in June and returned for an unofficial following the team camp a few weeks later. "I felt I played really well," he said. "After the team camp they had me stay, tour the campus and look at the facilities. I think it's a great place. They've got some of the best facili- ties in the country, and they're all so close they're like a family. That's something I like. "I talk to Coach Beilein the most, but I talk with pretty much all of them. I've seen Coach [Jeff] Meyer at some of the games, Coach La- Vall Jordan and Coach Bacari [Al- exander]. They've been just saying they love the way I've been play- ing, and they'll see me in Milwau- kee [July 17 weekend] and we'll see what happens." Watson transferred to Pickerington Central this year and has gotten to know Michigan shooting guard Caris LeVert, a Central grad, well. "I just met him probably six months ago, but we've gotten pretty close," he said. "He's a really good guy and a great role model to me, a guy I look up to. We haven't even talked about going to Michigan, but about working hard, making sure I'm making all the right decisions." Western Kentucky, Ohio, Day- ton, UMass, Akron, Toledo, Bowl- ing Green, Miami and Duquesne are among those who have offered. More are probably on the way. "I'm pretty excited," he said. "I'm not 100 percent sure when I'll com- mit, but probably sometime after July unless I feel ready before that." Another shooting guard prospect the Wolverines have targeted re- cently, Hopkins (Minn.) High four- star Amir Coffey, has Michigan in his top five and rising. The 6-6 Cof- fey, son of former Minnesota power forward Richard Coffey, scored 60 points in the first two games of his ju- nior season, but a torn ACL knocked him out of action the rest of the year. He's expected to be back in time for his senior season and reports that the knee is "doing great." "Right now I like Marquette, Min- nesota, Miami, Michigan and Flor- ida," he said. "I really like Michigan, and it seems like a great fit for me. They are high on my list right now." Coffey, Rivals' No. 50 player na- tionally, isn't certain yet when he'll take a Michigan visit, nor is he sure when he'll come to a decision. He does like the way U-M plays. "I like the way they would use me and would play me at my right posi- tion," he said. "Also the style of of- fense and tempo they play." Coffey averaged just more than 15 points per game as a sophomore at Hopkins, which finished second in the state in Minnesota's Class AAAA that year. He also averaged 3.8 re- bounds, 3.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting better than 50 percent from the floor and 38 percent
