MICHIGAN IN THE PROS GLENN ROBINSON III TRYING TO EARN A SPOT IN ATLANTA Glenn Robinson III was released by Philadelphia after his rookie year and picked up by Atlanta this summer, and he's played well in the NBA Summer League. He scored 13 points in 19 min- utes of a 71-70 win victory over Golden State July 12, making two game-win- ning free throws in his first game with the Hawks. He also notched three re- bounds, two steals and two blocked shots. Robinson posted 10 points and four rebounds, and 11 points and four re- bounds in his next two games, hoping to do enough to earn a training camp invite with Atlanta. "I thought he gave us a spark," Hawks assistant Kenny Atkinson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution after the latter effort, a July 15 win over the Mi- ami Heat. "He is obviously a very talented guy. He showed he can handle it. He hit a three. He's got NBA size for his posi- tion. That is the intriguing thing about Glenn. We are going to keep an eye on Tom Brady • NFL Brady, suspended four games for allegedly deflating footballs against Baltimore in an AFC playoff game, was still awaiting a rul- ing on his appeal as of July 19. "I do think they're negotiating," Jodi Balsam, the league's counsel for operations and litigation from 1994 to 2002, told USA Today. "There may be back-channel ne- gotiations, but what the NFL wants is an agreement from Brady's people that a reduction in the number of suspended games would resolve the issue and put the brakes on any further litigation," something Brady might not agree to. Jake Long • NFL The former NFL No. 1 overall pick (2008) is still looking for a team after working out with the New York Giants May 28. Long is coming off his second consecutive ACL tear and taking his time in working his way back. He is reportedly looking for a contract with guaranteed money. Tim Hardaway Jr. • NBA The former Michigan shooting guard and two-year New York Knick went to Atlanta in a trade June 25. He averaged 11.5 points in 70 games last season and has averaged 10.8 points a game his two years in the NBA. HEADLINERS Former Michigan athletes in the news this month
