The Wolverines had made the Big Ten Tournament finals for 10 straight years and lost each one. This time around, they got it done, knocking off Ohio State, 4-0, in the championship match. The Wolverines also went on, led by senior Emina Bektas — the Intercollegiate Ten- nis Association Midwest Region Senior of the Year — to the NCAA round of 16. 4. Field Hockey — Marcia Pankratz's No. 13-ranked Wolverines experienced a very solid season and were just a break or two away from winning the Big Ten. They finished tied for second in the regular season, then lost a heartbreaker in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals on their own field to No. 10 Northwestern, 2-1. Fifth-year senior midfielder Ainsley McCallister earned second-team All- America honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. 5. Women's Cross Country – Mike McGuire's crew took third place in Big Ten competition and then finished 18th at the NCAA Championships. Senior co-captain Brook Handler proved the Wolverines' top finisher at the national competition, placing 89th. — John Borton Sophomore Talia Chiarelli was one of four Wolverines to earn All-America hon- ors; she was named to the first-team in balance beam and floor exercise.
