C r o n e n w o r t h i s now making his mark as a professional with Class-A Hudson Val- ley in New York, a Rays affiliate, batting .278 with six doubles, a pair of triples and eight RBI, as of July 16. But no matter what he accomplishes in the professional ranks, he won't forget the run he and his team- mates made to win the tournament title. He was tired, having pitched in four games and playing all nine innings in each, but told Bakich he'd be available in the ninth if needed. "We got the quick first out, then a base hit and we thought the game was over, but an error loaded the bases and I hit the guy to make it 4-3," he recalled. "I knew I needed to make a pitch in that sit- uation. I made a good pitch and the guy flew out to left, and that fi- nal out encapsulated the entire season, all the ups and downs Cronenworth started all 180 games during his Michigan career before being drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the seventh round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft.
