FROM OUR READERS Michigan coach at all times. And just as importantly, he would do the same no matter where he is coaching. It is the reason that I am enthusiastic that he is coaching at Michigan. Give a full effort every time and strive for perfection in every situation, while suspecting that it is not attainable, but unable to seek anything less. It is that ethic that he brings to the program. Previous results are no guarantee of future success. Yet, I will not be denied my expectations of success. It's summer. Go Blue! J. Richard Jaconette, M.D. Battle Creek, Mich. Basing positive projections on history, fit and tangible early returns (player procurement, etc.) isn't hard here, Dr. J. This one appears a matter of when, not if. HAILING THE HANLON STORY Dear The Wolverine: I spent over 41 years as a member of the athletic staff. Most of the people I worked with have gone before me: Fritz Crisler, Don Lund, Al Renfrew and I could name many more. I go way back to Fielding Yost. My last job was with Jon Falk in equipment for 17 years. I traveled with the football and basketball teams for years. I remember when Bo came to coach in 1969. I lived in a house on Ferry Field, where all the football buildings are now located. I am writing this letter to tell you how much I love the article on Jerry Hanlon in the football preview magazine. I met Jerry when he came to join Bo. Jerry and Anne were a great couple. Anne worked in our ticket office, so I saw her every day. What a great lady. I just want to say, what a fine tribute to a wonderful person. Jerry Hanlon is the best. This past week, I celebrated my 92nd birthday. Thank you for the great job you are doing with The Wolverine magazine. If you see Coach Harbaugh, give him my best, and tell Jerry Hanlon what a great job he has done for Michigan. My wife and I just celebrated our 70th anniversary in May, and we are thankful for all the great memories. Robert Hurst New Port Richey, Fla. Thanks Robert, and congratulations. The old coach reads this magazine, so you just told him yourself.
