"She's a pretty accomplished mid- dle-distance runner on the track and then through a range of cross country events," said head women's cross country coach and assistant track coach Mike McGuire. "We plan to run her in the 800 and the 1,500, and she will have some very good 800-meter runners here at Michigan to train with, and with the milers also." Siobhan Haughey, swimming and div- ing — The Hong Kong native was called "the No. 1 college-bound sprinter in the country" by the web site SwimSwam.com, which ranked U-M's incoming women's class sev- enth nationally. With career-best times in the 50-me- ter freestyle (25.38 seconds), 100-me- ter freestyle (54.47) and 200-meter in- dividual medley (2:13.21), Haughey is hoping to qualify for the 2017 Sum- mer Olympics in Rio. She currently holds Hong Kong records in the 50 and 200 events, and the 400-meter individual medley (4:51.30) "Siobhan is a very talented young swimmer who could possibly be one of the best rising women in the sport," Michigan coach Mike Bottom said. "She compliments our program because she has her sights set on the Olympics, but also has a strong sense of what the University of Michigan can do for her when she is done com- peting. "She is going to make a big impact as a teammate, a student and a swim- mer." Carly Skjodt, volleyball — The 2014-15 Gatorade Player of the Year for Indiana and the PrepVolleyball. com National Senior Player of the Year, Skjodt accumulated 584 kills, 93 blocks and 465 digs in leading Car- mel High School to a 4A state title in her senior season. The 6-1 outside hitter, ranked the No. 26 recruit in the 2015 class by PrepVolleyball.com, was an Under Armour first-team All-American se- lection this past year. "When most kids would have been playing 16-U she was playing on one of the top 18-U teams in the country with her club, and she has played on it for three years. She has a little more experience than most players," Michigan coach Mark Rosen said. "From the outside position, she's a bit on the taller side, about 6-2. She's a good athlete. What is great about her, she fits the mold of what our best outside hitters have been, which are six-rotation kids. Kids that not only play front row well but she's a very good back-row player — a very good passer, a very good defender and a very good server." ❏
