said. "The company does mostly commercials, but the director I interned with does a lot of feature films outside of the company." Serving as a production assistant, Brown said she "ran around making sure everything was run- ning smoothly. It was cool to see things up close and get a feel for different styles of directing and producing." Brown worked on four different commercial shoots, appearing in one. "That was a fun experience," she said. One of the more interesting projects she worked on was assisting the director on a witch doctor documentary. "The director had been filming for five years and was close to production so I got to see a lot of the footage," she said. "They did several shoots while I was there, but I could not accom- pany them. They were going at night, and it was too dangerous for me." Brown said the trip wasn't all work. She devel- oped a group of friends who spent time hiking, going to the beach and visiting the local markets and shops. "They have everything you would want geo- graphically in one place," Brown said. Among her favorite hikes was Table Mountain, one of the "New 7 Wonders of Nature." "That was a long but beautiful hike," Brown said. "There were some iconic sunrise, sunset hikes that we did also." The Charlottesville native also got to sample some new food delicacies, including ostrich, wil- debeest, crocodile and springbok.
