VAF MEMBERS OF THE GAME The VAF Member of the Game program recognizes those individuals who support the work of the Virginia Athlet- ics Foundation. Included are donors with a history of loyal support, first-time donors, and donors who contribute to the annual fund, facilities, Friends Of, Coaches 10 and the endowment. We also recognize donors who are long-time season ticket holders. Members receive on-field and on-court recognition at the game, including an appearance on Hoo Vision. Members of the Game for the Notre Dame football game were the Smith family of Richmond, VA. The Smith family chooses to support VAF and Virginia athletics because, "The University, its students and alumni benefit tremendously from a successful athletics program. The athletics program provides a link between current and former students, as well as those individuals who may not be connected to the University in any other way. Simply put, without the VAF and those who support it, the University could not have a successful athletics program. The VAF is the linchpin that makes it all possible." Members of the Game for the William & Mary football game were Martin and Deborah Burks of Charlottesville, VA. "As members of the Charlottesville community, we support VAF because, through the generosity of its donors, they are able to provide scholarships for student-athletes that allow them to attend the University. The education they receive encourages them to become the leaders of tomorrow. "UVa athletics adds to the quality of life in the Charlottesville community, helping make it a well-rounded place to live. Athletic events are great competitive fun and exciting to attend. The competition is amazing, like the baseball team's recent surprise rise to the national stage. Defeating Maryland in the Super Regionals and winning the College World Series were fantastic. UVa athletics is full of surprises! As a triple Hoo, our son Martin IV especially enjoys exhibiting that "WAHOOWA" spirit!" Members of the Game for the Boise State football game were Michael and Jill Mancusi of Oakton, VA. In their words, "It has been a plea- sure to support the VAF and Virginia's student-athletes over the years. Helping to ensure a strong athletics program enhances the University experience for fans, students, alumni, faculty and student-athletes. Some of the fondest memories Jill and I have with our children are centered around UVa athletics. We are proud to say that Julia, Louis and Gabriella are "Wahoos for Life," having attended Virginia games since they were only a few weeks old. Their favorite Virginia sports memory was watching the 'Hoos end "The Streak" by beating Clemson for the first time on September 8, 1990. The fans in Scott Stadium, filled beyond capacity, witnessed one of the greatest games in UVa history and propelled the 'Hoos to a #1 ranking." Joey and Sherrill Smith with their grand- children.
