was lost for the season with a broken ankle. TURNOVER TRAVAILS For much of the season, Notre Dame had been able to avoid the "bad turn- overs" that derailed the team late in the 2014 season. Against Boston Col- lege, the Irish continued the woes that have hindered the offense this season, turning the ball over three times after reaching the red zone. Notre Dame lost two fumbles, and if not for a third lost fumble being over- turned by instant replay, the numbers could have been worse. Kelly gave much of the credit for the fumbles to the Boston College defense. "They did a great job on C.J. Pro- sise, ripping the ball loose," Kelly said. "I couldn't really tell on Josh Adams' fumble. It looked like he should have secured it." Kelly was far less forgiving regard- ing sophomore quarterback DeShone Kizer 's three interceptions, two of them in the red zone. "The first interception was careless. We tried to force a little boot pass into a corner that's sinking in the back of the end zone," Kelly explained, visibly annoyed. "That's crazy. "Throw that thing away. … The third one, they were in zone, and we threw an ill-advised screen pass … That's the worst thing down there. Let's kick the football." Notre Dame outgained Boston Col- lege 447-302 in total yards, but the turnovers allowed the Eagles to re- main in the game. With 54 seconds left in the contest, the Eagles were able to come away with a score that made it 19-16 in a game the Irish were ex- pected to win in far more impressive fashion. "The story of the game here is if we take care of the football, this game separates," Kelly said. "As well as Boston College intended to play and did play … we turned the ball over four times in easy scoring areas of the field. Those are things that are correct- able, and we'll get them corrected." Notre Dame reached the red zone seven times in the game, but failed to convert on three of them, all a result of turnovers. "You can't go down there and not come away with points," Kelly said. MISCELLANEOUS NOTES • Due to the layout of the field, both Notre Dame and Boston College were forced to be on the same sideline. • Senior running back C.J. Prosise (1,029 rushing yards) and wide receiver Will Fuller (1,009 receiving yards) both eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark against Boston College. It becomes the first time since 2011 that Notre Dame has had a running back and a receiver do that in the same season. Running back Cierre Wood (1,102 yards) and wide receiver Michael Floyd (1,147 yards) accomplished the feat that season. • Notre Dame outscored Boston College 10-0 in the first quarter, giving the Irish a 116-43 point advantage in the opening 15 minutes on the season. • Freshman kicker Justin Yoon nailed two field goals in the game, giving him eight straight made kicks. Yoon has not missed a field goal attempt since Sept. 12 at Virginia. • Junior safety Max Redfield recorded his first career sack during the second quarter.
