Notre Dame was ranked No. 4 in the Nov. 17 release of the College Football Playoff rankings, a position that com- mittee chairman Jeff Long described as "strong." However, the Big 12 is charg- ing late behind a back-loaded schedule that almost mimics a conference play- off, and the victor of the round-robin games — including a potential 11-1 Oklahoma team, or undefeated 12-0 Oklahoma State — could have a résumé that challenges Notre Dame.
