NOTRE DAME RUNNING GAME
VS. STANFORD RUN DEFENSE
Notre Dame did not miss a beat when standout
senior running back C.J. Prosise went out with an
injury early in its victory over Pittsburgh Nov. 7. In his
place against the Panthers and the following week
versus Wake Forest, freshman Josh Adams rushed
for 288 yards and averaged 7.8 yards per carry. It
speaks to the potency of the Irish ground game,
which ranked 23rd nationally (215.6 yards per game)
through Nov. 14.
Notre Dame has rushed for at least 168 yards in all
but one game this season, and has had a 100‑yard
rusher in eight of its first 10 games. Prosise, Adams
and sophomore quarterback DeShone Kizer have
all rushed for at least 100 yards in a game this year.
Stanford has built its defense around shutting
down the opposition's effectiveness on the ground.
During stretches this season, Stanford has been
