The previous short‑ est distance was 8.0 miles at Briggs Stadium when the Irish played their first ever night game versus Detroit on Oct. 5, 1951. 786 Rushing yards by Darius Walker in 2004 to set the Notre Dame re‑ cord for most in a single season by a fresh‑ man, including 43 in the 38‑21 bowl loss to Oregon State to push him past Jerome Heavens' 756 set in 1975. Current Irish running backs coach Autry Denson is listed No. 3 with 695 in 1995, but back then his 67 in the Orange Bowl was not included, so he ac‑ tually should be listed with 762, in fairness. Denson's current pu‑ pil JOSH ADAMS moved into the No. 4 spot with 553 after gain‑ ing 147 and 141 versus Pitt and Wake Forest in the first two games of November.
