FAN FORUM is an experience." Recently I've become concerned that Coach Kelly is contemplating expe- riencing that "experience." To many college coaches the NFL is their Hope Diamond. Matt Hart Trenton, Mich. Mr. Hart, in fairness to Coach Kelly, he was asked directly at a press confer- ence by a reporter doing a feature on Mc- Glinchey on whether he believed the junior had an NFL future. Kelly gave his honest appraisal. Since he first took over, Kelly has con- sistently stated that the top two goals he outlines for every player recruited are to graduate and to help Notre Dame win a national title. A byproduct of the latter is the opportunity to get noticed for a third goal — a chance to play in the NFL. He believes there is nothing wrong with hav- ing such aspirations — and knows it can't be done without future NFL players — but it can't supersede the first two objectives. FROM THE WEBSITE Heading into the Boston College game ranked No. 4 by the College Football Playoff selection committee for the four-team tournament, Notre Dame followers were encouraged that committee chairman Jeff Long said the Fighting Irish were a "strong" No. 4 over No. 5 Iowa, No. 6 Oklahoma State and No. 7 Oklahoma. Here were some of the dozens of reactions on BlueandGold.com. IrishTom2: He didn't seem to suggest anything that puts ND at risk versus a Big 12 team, currently. Of course, key word is currently. A lot can, and will, happen before the end of the season. Also, this is him trying to represent all 12 committee members, but as he pointed out, there can be some inconsistencies in what he says versus what other members are actually thinking. Pbrunner1: Jeff Long's comments make a lot of sense. Strength of Schedule is probably the most im- portant variable after the W/L record. The Big 12 will never catch Notre Dame in this regard unless there is a complete collapse from the teams ND defeated. Win big against Boston College and defeat Stanford. That should get the job done. Mrwigglesby21: I don't think ND needs to blowout both BC and Stanford to punch their ticket, but they definitely cannot afford to look sloppy while winning. JMurphy163: No way we blow out Stanford, and just winning there, even in ugly fashion, is what we should hope for and expect. This is probably all that we need unless Oklahoma State or Oklahoma wins out decisively. I still think ND goes over OU no matter what, though, if we just win. BGIUser2118: The ugly Texas loss to OU resonates even more since Texas didn't exactly build on that win, evidenced by the ugly 24-0 loss to Iowa State. Smokebomb99: I repeat, a solid win over BC and any win over Stanford in Palo Alto means ND is in. Impossible to keep them out at that point. BE HEARD!
