UNDER THE DOME
the final eight games
(recording 36 tackles)
when future All-Amer-
ican Kevin Hardy suf-
fered a season-ending
injury in the second
game that season.
Arrington and con-
verted linebacker Pete
Duranko (who began his
career at fullback) were
the tackles, although
the other starting offen-
sive guard, Tom Regner,
would rotate every third
or so series in place of
Arrington to give him a
breather.
Those days are long
gone, but there have
been Notre Dame foot-
ball players in the last
half-century here and
there who have moon-
lighted or dabbled part-
time on one side of the
ball while starting on the
other. The most promi-
nent was Jeff Burris in
1993, earning first-team
All-America notice at
cornerback but also scor-
ing six touchdowns as a
short-yardage back, in-
cluding six- and 10-yard
tallies in the 31-24 vic-
tory versus No. 1 Flor-
ida State. Junior wide
receiver/nickel back To-
rii Hunter Jr. is the most
recent.
