New Haven star hit only 11 of 33 (33.3 percent) from three- point range — not a terrible clip, but it was clear Beachem's confidence was shaken. The shooting slump led to him aver- aging only 7.0 minutes per game for the Irish in the ACC and NCAA Tourna- ments, after he had played 17.4 minutes per contest in the previous 17-game ACC stretch. "I just wasn't knocking down shots," he said. "Sometimes you go through a slump, but it just happened to be at a bad time last year. "That's something that I tried to erase right away." And forget that stretch Beachem did. During the summer, he competed for USA East Coast — a team of college athletes that traveled around Europe and Africa Aug. 1-9 for a series of games — and led that squad in both scoring and rebounding. His successful overseas trip helped him get his mind- set back on track. "I was in Paris and a couple spots in Italy," Beachem said. "It was a great trip; we played against great competi- tion — the Nigerian National Team, the Chinese National Team twice. "The trip really helped me with going out there and playing my game." In particular, Beacham set out to be more then just a shooter. "I've been working on putting the ball on the ground more and driving more," he said. "I didn't drive pretty much at all last year.
