Walton stepped up to provide clutch
shots in the waning moments against
Maryland. Those came after Beilein
urged him, with some intensity, to get
more aggressive down the stretch.
He's been surrounded by enough
talent in the past that Walton hasn't
had to lead much, Beilein noted. Those
days are done.
"That's why I was encouraging Der-
rick: 'You've got to shoot the ball,'"
Beilein said after the Maryland game.
"That's on me, too. I have to dial him
up more, create more things for him."
The Wolverines began Big Ten play
3-2, with the losses at Purdue and
Iowa, where many conference teams
will fall this season.
Senior Caris LeVert only played in 14 of the team's first 18 contests but leads the Wolverines
with 17.6 points per game. He is also tied for the team lead with an average of 5.4 rebounds.
