N HIS THIRD SEASON AT UVA,
swimming and diving head coach
Augie Busch led the Cavalier
women to their ninth consecutive
ACC title and a second consecu-
tive fifth-place finish at the NCAA
Championships. The fifth-place finishes at
the national meet are program-best marks.
For fourth-year Courtney Bartholomew,
it was a great way to close out her Virginia
career.
"To take a ninth conference title is huge,"
she said. "It just shows the heart and deter-
mination of our team, and the goal to go out
there and get them. You can't ask for more
than that."
The Cavaliers won 10 events at the ACC
Championships, including the 800 free-
style relay and the 400 medley relay. Bar-
tholomew won the 100 and 200 backstroke
plus the 200 individual medley, while third-
year Leah Smith captured the 500 and 1,650

The women's swimming and diving squad
won its ninth straight ACC crown this
year, capturing 10 events at the confer-
ence meet.
