BASKETBALL RECRUITING four or five months, but he's a levelheaded kid. He's going with the flow of it, keeping his options open. He likes what Coach Beilein and Michigan offer — likes Coach Beilein, and the campus and facili‑ ties are remarkable." Young averaged 21 points and eight rebounds to earn his league's player of the year award for the sec‑ ond straight season, and he was the only junior on the Ohio All‑State Division I team. He averaged 17.9 points and 8.4 rebounds last season as a sophomore in gaining special mention All‑Ohio. He shot 56.3 per‑ cent from the field and 38.8 percent from three‑point range. "Overall, he handles the ball really well for a 6‑7 kid and shot over 45 percent from three this year," De‑ bevec said. "He's definitely a shooter, he's athletic — we'll run alley‑oops for him. "He does a lot of good things and was key for us. He played everything from five man to the two for us. He's very versatile. And who knows what he could do if he grew another inch or two? "Kyle's a quality kid with good grades. He's going to be a good leader, is coachable and works hard … He's never been a problem for us." Young continues to work on his ball handling and his strength, trying to put on 10 or 15 pounds before next season. He is familiar with Michigan — Jackson High is at the U‑M team camp every year — and has formed a relationship with Beilein, Debevec said. "We go to Michigan for a couple reasons," he said. "Team bonding, yes, but more and more it's because Coach Beilein is such a quality coach and person, as good a person as a coach." Young will play with King James AAU on the EYBL circuit this spring and summer, a notch up from what he's used to, and will likely take his recruitment through the summer. Butler, Clemson, Illinois, Purdue, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Xavier are among the others that have of‑ fered him. "I'm completely open and feeling everything out, but yes, I have talked to Coach Beilein a number of times," Young said, adding he might take his recruitment into the fall if he isn't sure where he wants to go. Kyle Young, a 6‑7, 190‑pound wing that averaged 21 points and eight rebounds for Massillon (Ohio) Jackson High, was the only junior to earn a spot on the Ohio All‑State Division I team this past season.
