JULY 2016 ■ 147 ■ BASKETBALL RECRUITING to go along with 5.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists per contest. He shot 45.2 percent from the field and 37.7 percent on three-pointers. As a result of that performance, Weather- spoon rose 40 spots in the Rivals150. "I felt that I was under the radar rankings- wise, and people weren't talking about me a lot," said Weatherspoon, 17. "I took this weekend kind of personal. I wanted to score the ball and show people what I was all about. "I still have more to show, but it was a good weekend." New NC State assistant coach Heath Schroyer offered Weatherspoon April 24, and Louisville and North Carolina have also jumped in. Weatherspoon knows that his recruitment will definitely undergo some changes. At the adidas Nations last year in the Los Angeles area, he got the chance to meet NC State redshirt freshman point guard Den- nis Smith. He also watched point guard An- thony Barber tear up the ACC in his final college season, so he has a feel for how the Wolfpack play. "I actually know Dennis and will talk to him every once in a while," Weatherspoon said. "He'll talk about how they are pushing him to get better." Playing in the ACC intrigues Weatherspoon, even though he grew up in the heart of SEC country. He hopes to unofficially or officially visit NC State and North Carolina in August. "I know the ACC is a basketball conference, and they have a lot of teams in the league that I like to watch," Weatherspoon said. "That could play a big role in my recruitment." Weatherspoon has earned offers from NC State, Alabama, Georgia, Iowa State, LSU, Louisville, Memphis, Mississippi, Mis- sissippi State, UNC, Ohio State and Texas A&M, and he's eager for more in the future. "There are things I need to work on," Weatherspoon said. "For instance, my step- back jumper is something I could work on. "I want to show coaches that I can still get to the rim and play defense. They've seen me shoot the ball really well." Weatherspoon is the younger brother of Mississippi State rising sophomore wing Quinndary Weatherspoon, who was ranked No. 116 overall in the class of 2015 by Ri- vals.com. The older Weatherspoon averaged 12.0 points and 4.7 rebounds in a successful first year for the Bulldogs. The younger Weatherspoon had to adjust to playing without his brother this past win- ter. Some wonder if the brothers will reunite at Mississippi State. Nick said it would be special if they played together again, but ad- mitted that he has to make the best decision for himself. "He'll call and tell me how recruiting can be pretty hard, and I have to look at the www.systemscontractors.com Since 1977, Systems Contractors, Inc. has provided Industrial & Commercial HVAC Services throughout the Southeast.
