In addition, throws coach Kemal Mesic will compete for Bosnia and Her- zegovina, two UVA head coaches — row- ing's Kevin Sauer and women's soccer's Steve Swanson — have been selected as Olympic team assistants and a pair of al- ums — Paige Selenski ('13, United States) in field hockey and Emily Sonnett ('16, United States) in women's soccer — have been named alternates for their respective teams. 3 Cavaliers were selected in June's MLB Draft — third-year catcher Matt Thaiss in the first round (No. 16 overall) by the Los Angeles Angels, third-year right-handed pitcher Connor Jones in the second round (70th) by the St. Louis Cardinals and third-year shortstop Daniel Pinero in the ninth round (265th) by the Detroit Tigers. The trio brings the total of all- time Virginia selections in the top 10 rounds to 54, including 38 since 2004. 5th is where the Virginia men's track and field/cross country teams fin- ished in the 2015-16 John McDonnell NCAA Division I Men's Program of the Year rankings, which matches last year for the best finish ever and was first among ACC schools. The Cavaliers
