as prepared as possible, study the defense,
obviously, and just play my game and we'll
see how everything works out. I think I have
a good opportunity to make an impact right
away, which is one of my goals."
On the court, Guy has a reputation for
being flamboyant, which has sometimes
drawn the concern of his mother.
"She just doesn't want people thinking
I'm boastful," Guy said. "In reality, I'm just
playing the game I love with a lot of pas-
sion and enthusiasm — trying to the get the
crowd and my own teammates into it. She
calls it flare or swag. I just call it passion.
"I mean I'm not going to change my
game at all. If the opposing student section
says something, that just makes me play
better. I could care less what other people
think about me who aren't UVA fans."
Off the court, Guy is extremely active
on social media. He has more than 8,000
Twitter followers — a number that is sure to
grow once basketball season starts.
"I kind of use social media to be a role
model," he said. "I have a lot of eyes on me
and I want to be a good role model. All the kids
who follow me, I try and be someone they can
look up to. That's kind of why I do it the most."
Virginia head coach Tony Bennett gets a
gleam in his eye when he talks about Guy.
During the McDonald's All-American festivities, Guy advanced to the finals of both the dunk
and three-point shooting contests.
