who right away can be an effective player for Virginia — certainly as a defensive player and as a rebounder. "She has a nice little offensive game. She's got a jump hook, a good mid-range shot. I would say the one area she's going to have to get better at to be as impactful as she could be would be to get stronger to be able to deal with the physical- ity down low. She's not weak, but she just needs to get stronger for that level." Clarke said his prized pupil can easily dunk. "She did a drop-step two-handed dunk the other day," he said. "She's effortless and so long- armed that she doesn't have to jump very much, but she actually jumps OK. "I would be shocked if she didn't dunk at Vir- ginia." Aiyeotan's favorite players are WNBA star Brittney Griner and NBA legend Kareem Abdul- Jabbar. "My sky hook is not as good as his," she said with a laugh, "but I have a jump hook." Aiyeotan hopes to make a big impact. "I know I still have a long ways to go," she said. "I know the transition from high school to col- lege is going to be hard, but at the same time I want to be a big part of the team." Clarke said Virginia is getting a great kid. "She's a good student, a great leader," he said. "She's hardworking. She knows that the educa- tion she's receiving is going to set her up for down the road when her basketball career is over." Sadly, Aiyeotan hasn't seen her family since moving to the United States from Nigeria before her freshman year. "It's tough," she said, "but we talk almost every day. They encourage me and remind me what I'm here for." — Whitelaw Reid
