Like Thomas Jefferson, not a single Wahoo has been asked to do so — each has simply acted. For the past four years, the Wakely Flyers — a team comprised of members of the lacrosse community whom are directly connected to Chris Wakely ('90), who was diagnosed with the disease in 2002, and led by Virginia men's lacrosse alumni — have raised more than $100,000 in an effort to find a cure. Wakely Flyer riders are family (wife, Danielle; son, Jack; sister, Patricia; and brother-in-law, Ed), fellow Wahoos, friends, student-athletes men- tored by Chris, and college lacrosse coaches and officials. 26 ◆ CAVALIER CORNER Mike Smith, who played lacrosse for the Cavaliers from 1987-90, has taken part in the National MS Society's City to Shore Bike Ride since 2009.
