Can you believe we're already in the midst of the 2012-13 bas- ketball season?! This is one of my favorite times of the year, and it is a treat to finally be back in the John Paul Jones Arena watching both the men's and women's teams compete. Although I watch from the sidelines now, I am truly proud and honored to have worn the Virginia uniform. After a successful All-Sports Reunion weekend hosted by the FROM THE DESK OF THE VAF DEVELOPMENT INTERN Virginia Athletics Foundation in early October, I began to really un- derstand what it means to be a "Cavalier for Life. tunity to meet so many alumni who came back to Charlottesville from all different parts of the country. They shared with me some of their stories and experiences from when they were student- athletes here and their love and dedication to the university was apparent. I even got to speak with a student-athlete alumnus who was a member of the UVa men's lacrosse team when they won the first NCAA championship back in the 1950s! It's a special feeling knowing that he and I are both forever a part of Virginia athletics. I've also made a big transition in my development internship " I had the oppor- with the VAF. After completing my time in with the administra- tive team, I am now working in stewardship and campaigning alongside our stewardship and campaign manager, Elizabeth Harrell. I learned a lot in my first few months working with the administrative team, having responsibilities that ranged from answering the phones and assisting donors, to running reports out of the databases, to learning about the parking and ticketing benefits for our donors. It was a great way to learn the ins and outs of the Foundation and it prepared me for the next phase of this internship. Some of my responsibilities now include assisting with the planning and execution of the 2013 Annual Campaign materials and marketing initiatives, researching retention and stewardship strategies from other schools, and coordinating end of year mailings. It has been an awesome experience so far and I look forward to finishing 2012 strong and seeing what the start of a new year looks like with the Virginia Athletics Foundation.
