Dear Cavalier Friends, We have entered the last two months of the year that are traditionally busy with the transi- tion from football season to basketball season, postseason play for the fall sports and wrapping up our fund-raising year. It is also a time of thanksgiving for the generous support from our fans and donors throughout the year. We are blessed with a loyal follow- ing of donors who continue to help us create the very best academic and athletics experience for each of our student-athletes. Our staff is hard at work to close out our $14.5 million annual fund campaign and ready ourselves for a 2013 campaign that will require an even greater effort. To date, our campaign is running slightly ahead of 2011. We are still running a deficit and using cash reserves to fund the entire scholarship bill but are grate- ful that the fund-raising total is ahead of the previous year. If you would like to consider an additional 2012 gift or would like to get a jump-start on your 2013 gift before year's end, please contact a member of our staff prior to Dec. 31. The construction of the George Welsh In- door Practice Facility continues to be on pace, even with the unexpected fire several weeks ago. The fund-raising campaign will continue through the end of the year. We are encourag- ing donors who like to be a part of this project to make a pledge commitment by Dec. 31 so that we can include you in the donor recogni- tion listing. We have less than $2 million left to raise and our staff is working diligently to complete this project. Lastly, we have launched a redesigned web- site that has many enhanced features, including a member center where you can manage your account, donor highlights, student-athlete fea- tures, fund-raising comparisons to other ACC schools, and more. Please visit our site to check out your ac- count and see the new design. You can also find us on Facebook. We are trying to find new and enhanced ways to connect with each of our do- nors, while remaining committed to our face-to-face relationships, which are at the very heart of what we do. One of our special moments each year is when we honor those donors who have reached their 40th consecutive year of contributing to Virginia athletics. Ninety-seven individuals reached that milestone at the end of 2011. We had a wonderful dinner at a beautifully transformed Slaughter Recreation Center and recognized them on the field during the foot- ball game against Wake Forest. A list of these donors can be found in this issue of the Cava- lier Corner. Please join me in thanking this remarkable group of donors. In the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, thank you so much for your unwavering sup- port. Kind regards, Dirk P. Katstra Executive Director
