MAY 2018 ■ 71 ■ FOOTBALL RECRUITING cruit, the No. 4 prospect in North Carolina, and the No. 7 defensive tackle and No. 141 overall player in the country. Defensive end Savion Jackson, Clayton (N.C.) High No prospect visited NC State more dur- ing the spring than Jack- son, including for the spring game. He was also a frequent visitor for home games last season, often times coming with his teammate and wide receiver Devin Carter, who signed with NC State in December. Jackson is rated as a four-star talent, the No. 2 prospect in North Carolina, and the No. 12 strongside defensive end and No. 120 overall player nationally by Rivals.com. South Carolina and Virginia Tech have been most frequently mentioned as the top competitors for NC State. As a junior, Jackson (6-3, 245 pounds) recorded 56 tackles, 20 stops for loss, eight sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt. He notched 51 tackles and seven sacks as a sophomore. Defensive lineman Christian Rorie, Raleigh Enloe High Few prospects look the part like the 6-6, 270-pound Rorie. Although he is raw as a football player, his upside has led to offers from Duke, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Wake Forest. The Fighting Irish offer came in April, but prior to that NC State was considered his leader over Duke. "It has been pretty good with NC State, and I feel like I have a strong relation- ship, especially with [defensive line] Coach [Kevin] Patrick," Rorie said. "I have been talking to him a lot, and everything is cool." Rorie had 48 tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks and 37 quarterback hurries as a junior in 11 games. Rivals.com ranks him as the No. 26 recruit in North Carolina and the No. 50 strongside defensive end nationally. Linebacker Drake Thomas, Wake Forest (N.C.) Heritage High Thomas' connections to NC State are almost too plentiful to mention. His older brother Thayer Thomas is a walk-on redshirt freshman wide receiver for the Pack and in the mix to be the team's punt returner in the fall. GREGORY D. MILLER, CPA SANDRA A.
