michigan in the pros Wolverine Mike Knuble recently turned 40, but he's not yet ready to call it a career. Knuble was cut following a tryout with the Detroit Red Wings in the days before the season finally started, but he opted to sign a 25-game pro tryout with minor league affiliate Grand Rapids. "I was pretty realistic; I didn't have any crazy illusions of something happening this week," Knuble told the Detroit News after his tryout with the Red Wings. "It is what it is, a week of hockey and a chance to play and get back into the [mindset] of playing again and get your name out there and you're active. "It gives me more flexibility to decide what I want to do. If you're at a different point of your career, you'd be crushed — but being a veteran guy, you understand the way it goes and it's law of the jungle." Knuble, a veteran of 1,040 NHL games, has recorded 540 points (274 goals and 266 assists) over 16 seasons with the Red Wings, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals.
