michigan recruiting have his choice of colleges. He's a teammate of two 2014 players with Michigan offers: Scott and offensive lineman Mason Cole. If the Wolverines can reel in either or both of those players, it could help land Campbell. Derrick Green Decision Looms The nation's top running back, Richmond (Va.) Hermitage five-star Derrick Green, is nearing a decision date. The 6-0, 218-pounder will make his pledge Jan. 26 at a community center in his hometown of Richmond. Michigan fans are feeling the excitement around Green's decision, since he admitted in early January at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio that U-M was atop his list. Unless plenty has changed in the intervening 20 days, the Wolverines could be in for some good news when Green makes his pledge. Auburn and Tennessee are also in the mix for Green's services, with a few other schools — most notably Florida State, Miami and TCU — trying to stay in the mix. Both the Volunteers and Tigers have experienced coaching changes since Green's official visits to their respective campuses, whereas Michigan will be on its third straight year of the same coaching staff — one of only four schools nationally who can say the same. If Michigan can add Green, the No.  8 player nationally will be the highest-ranked recruit to become a Wolverine since quarterback Ryan Mallett, who was No. 4 in the 2007 recruiting class. Tight End Durham Smythe Is On The Board Belton (Texas) High tight end Durham Smythe is one option to fill either of the remaining two spots in Michigan's 2013 recruiting class. Stanford, Michigan and Notre Dame are his final remaining schools after the three-star decommitted from Texas in December. He took his official visit to Stanford Jan. 11, and has remaining trips to Notre Dame and Michigan, which he will take the final two weekends before National Signing Day. He had initially planned to make the trip to Ann Arbor Jan.  25 and Notre Dame Feb.  1, but will switch those two dates. It does not, however, affect either school's chance to land him. "Notre Dame is just having most of their remaining targets in that weekend, so I thought I'd go with that group and then head to Ann Arbor on the last weekend," he explained. Getting to South Bend on the weekend of an exciting, visitor-heavy event may help the Irish lure him to commit — and never see Michigan — but that is not Smythe's intention. If he makes it home from South Bend without committing to the Irish, Michigan will have the advantage of the last visit. Smythe plans to make his college commitment after returning home from his final official trip, but prior to National Signing Day Feb. 6. Rivals.com ranks him as the No. 14 tight end nationally and the No.  47 player in Texas. ❑
