In their first full recruiting classes, 2012 and 2013, Hoke, [Greg] Mattison and crew have proven that they can attract the talent needed to contend for Big Ten titles and much more. There are still some areas that need to be upgraded before Michigan is Michigan again! In a Wolverine letter printed after Hoke's hiring, I wrote that he needed to own the state in recruiting and get more than Buckeye leftovers in Ohio. I also hoped to get back to the days when Michigan plucked the elite Illinois prospects as well. The staff has done an incredible job in all these areas! While Michigan seems to have landed the much-needed workhorse at tailback in Derrick Green, the star wide receiver recruit has eluded them. The Michigan wideouts have been pedestrian, and Mario Manningham remains the last great Wolverine WR. While it is true that lightly recruited guys like Braylon Edwards and Desmond Howard come along, they are very rare indeed. Perhaps Da'Mario Jones will be one? Odds are against it. Greg McMurtry, Amani Toomer and David Terrell were the consensus No. 1 receivers in the country.
