michigan recruiting Da'Shawn Hand Makes His Visit It's been a long time since the No. 1 overall player in the country has strongly considered Michigan, and the Wolverines have never landed the nation's top player. U-M took major steps toward changing that March 1517 when Woodbridge (Va.) High defensive end Da'Shawn Hand took an unofficial trip to Ann Arbor. The 6-4, 245-pound Hand includes Michigan in his top five schools, thanks to his strong relationships with head coach Brady Hoke and defensive coordinator Greg Mattison. On his first-ever visit to campus, the Wolverines had a chance to show him everything else that the school and football program entail. "We drove eight and a half hours on Friday to get up there," he said. "Saturday we went to the facilities, met up with the coaches and watched practice for a little bit. Then we went to the academic buildings, and we went to the sports management building. All the facilities are really nice. The professor there really knows his stuff. "After that we went back to the practice facilities, met with the coaches and watched some film. Later, I went and hung out with the players. All the players are really funny, and we had a really good time. All the people are nice, and everybody knows you. "Sunday, we went to The Big House. It was my first time being there and it was big. That experience was so crazy. It was an amazing stadium." The competition for the five-star will be fierce.
