Fortunately, the trip was an unmitigated success. "He had a ball," Woodbridge High School assistant coach John Harris said. "He hung out a lot with Blake [Countess] and Taco [Charlton]. He and his dad really enjoyed talking to the sports marketing professors." Hand's combination of size and athleticism make him an easy choice as the nation's top player. He dominated the 2012 Rivals Five-Star Challenge in Atlanta, despite competing against the best players across the nation in the 2013 recruiting class — players a year older than him. That production continued on the field during his junior season, when he recorded more than 100 tackles, including 40 tackles for loss and 11 sacks, as a defensive end. East Lake Connection Michigan's addition of Mason Cole to the class of 2014 was a positive for the U-M program. The 6-5, 275-pounder has the size and skills to be either an offensive tackle or guard at the next level. His total package of skills and potential has earned him distinction as the country's No. 107 player overall. He brought those skills to the gridiron as a junior, starting (for Hometown (High School) Tarpon Springs, Fla. (East Lake) Saint Clairsville, Ohio (Saint Clairsville) Salt Lake City (Highland) Richmond, Va. (The Collegiate School) the third straight year) for a program that notched an 11-2 record. He also received Florida Class 8A first-team all-state distinction. Cole could be an even bigger boost for Michigan's program. The Wolverines have been in need of playmaking wide receivers since Brady Hoke arrived, and Cole has two teammates that are impact players at the position. Junior receiver Artavis Scott and sophomore wideout George Campbell could both end up at Michigan. "Artavis brings the work ethic," East Lake High School football coach Bob Hudson said. "He is probably the most competitive kid I've ever been associated with. He refuses to lose if he has any control over it. The work ethic's phenomenal, and he takes a leadership role." The 5-11, 180-pound Scott is ranked the No. 93 player nationally in the 2014 class, but Campbell could reach even greater heights. "He's a sophomore and is 6-4, 185190 pounds," Hudson said. "Who knows what he's going to end up being when it's all said and done. He ran a 4.4 [40-yard dash], he ran a 4.1 shuttle. Just like Mason, he'll have all the scholarship offers he wants." The receivers are friends with Cole and have visited Ann Arbor with him (Scott twice, Campbell in February in
