32 ■ THE WOLFPACKER W H E R E AR E T H E Y N O W ? BY BRIAN RAPP I t was a desire to stay close to family that first brought Patrena Trice to NC State 36 years ago. And it was that same desire that brought the Virginia native, and former Wolfpack All-American player and assistant coach, back to Raleigh three years ago. In those intervening 33 years, the member of the ACC Legends Class of 2009 and the WNBA's first draft class had traveled worldwide in pursuit of a basketball dream that be- gan on a court in Norfolk in the late 1960s — and which, in recent years, has taken a back seat to the demands of being a wife and mother. "I do miss it," admitted Trena Trice-Hill (she has gone by Trena since her playing days at NC State; the hyphen comes from her marriage to former pro player Derrick Hill in 2000). "I do get the urge every once in awhile to get back in the game in some capacity, but I made a decision in 2016 to take a break and do something different with my life. During her playing career, Trice-Hill helped the Wolfpack post a 90-33 overall record, earn one regular-season ACC crown and two league tournament titles, and advance to the NCAA Tournament all four years.
