THEY SAID IT THEY SAID IT "I was ecstatic, obviously. The ecstatic and jubi- lation of the moment was short — I had practice in about 30 minutes and meetings to go to, so I kind of bottled it up and went to meetings. My teammates, my friends, my family — everyone was ecstatic." — Notre Dame walk-on running back Cameron Ekanayake on finding out he was a Rhodes Scholar finalist "We're very transparent in terms of who we are and what we're looking for. We're going to be clear when we talk about why you would come to Notre Dame: Here are the things you would get by coming here. "That's where we'll have our niche. What we can point to is we have an incredibly physical football team on both sides of the ball and we've devel- oped those players to move onto the NFL. There's a great niche there. "You're going to come to the Midwest, expect to play in difficult conditions. This is where we can really get into some of those homes and talk about how we can develop you and get you ready for the next stage. We've done well with those kids who understand Notre Dame and want to move onto the NFL, especially those lineman." — Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly on recruiting against other top collegiate programs (The Herd With Colin Cowherd) "They definitely did get some criticism at the beginning, and that's probably tough on a young group. Javon McKinley is a fifth-year and Ben Skow- ronek is in his fifth year as well, but they don't really have anybody with a couple solid years of experience. It took a little bit for them to find their way, but I think what they've done a really good job of is, No. 1, stepping up and making really big plays. "You've seen guys doing that in the last couple of weeks in particular. And I think they've done a really good job of adjusting, because they've had injuries." — Former Notre Dame wide receiver Chris Finke on the current Irish receiving corps (Sons of Saturday Podcast) "Thanks to the ACC for letting us crash on your couch. Whatever peculiar arrangement that you want to call it that Notre Dame has with the ACC, this year it lets them have a full schedule, so that when it comes time to make the argument for the playoffs, which with four slots, we still have to make arguments for the playoffs and not get instantly granted slots. "Notre Dame is going to have a really strong conference schedule to cite, and the most games because the ACC started before everyone." — Col- lege Football writer Spencer Hall on what Notre Dame has to be thankful for (ESPN's College Foot- ball Wrap-Up Show) OF THE WEEK "Today we honor the life of our beloved 'Golden Boy,' Paul Hornung, as he's being laid to rest. On behalf of the Notre Dame football program, we send our thoughts and prayers to his loved ones." — Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly (@CoachBrianKelly) Nov. 20, the day of Hornung's funeral mass PHOTO COURTESY BRIAN KELLY TWITTER
