20 DEC. 5, 2020 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED yards on 11 plays and three posses- sions in the quarter. Stats: Notre Dame had 371 yards of total offense after three quarters (235 passing, 136 rushing) to the Tar Heels' 263 (176 passing, 87 rushing). Items: On Notre Dame's second se- ries, a 53-yard completion from Book to McKinley on the first play set up a 32-yard field goal attempt that Do- erer shanked to his right with 3:19 left, leaving the score 24-17 and the Tar Heels within striking distance … Fifth- year senior defensive end Adetokunbo Ogundeji stopped Williams on the next series for a one-yard gain on third-and-five, forcing another punt. FOURTH QUARTER NOTRE DAME, 31-17 Top Moment: With 5:52 left and clinging to a 24-17 lead, Notre Dame took possession at its 11-yard line and went into its four-minute offense to milk the clock en route to scor- ing. Eight plays later, Williams took it in from the 1-yard line with 1:20 remaining to conclude the 89-yard drive in eight plays that took 4:32. Feature Performer: Williams began the drive with a 47-yard burst, and during the quarter his eight carries netted 74 yards as the go-to figure when it comes to ball control. He also caught a pass. Stats: The Tar Heels, who were fourth nationally in total offense per game with 563.4, finished with 298 — with just 78 in the second half while going 0 of 6 on third down. Items: With the score still 24-17, North Carolina took over at its 33- yard line with 9:10 left and drove to a first down to the Notre Dame 41 … But an incomplete pass, no yards on a scramble, a sack by senior defen- sive tackle Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa and an unsportsmanlike penalty on Brown led to the punt and the Irish game-sealing drive. ✦ Sophomore running back Kyren Williams produced 144 total yards and scored three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) to lead the way for the Notre Dame offense.
