C O M ON PENN STATE'S SEARCH FOR A NEW ATHLETICS DIRECTOR ... The "critical" aspect of this hire will be: Can our new president and AD align with the head coach to make Penn State the "elite" team that James Franklin has been asking for, get on the same page and actually make a differ- ence? Talk is cheap, and the results will show up on the field with the right facilities and players being coached up to beat the best in the Big Ten. — Dogden1 I think the deal that Franklin got pretty much gives him a lot of say as to who the next athletic director will be. The large amount of guaranteed money and the low buyout amount three years from now pretty much guaran- tee that the next athletic director has to be in alignment with Franklin. — Edh85 ON THE RUNNING BACK BATTLE IN SPRING PRACTICE ... It's going to be very interesting. I don't think the RB room starts fall practice the same way it ends with the B&W game. And if Singleton or Kaytron have their blocking and blitz pickups down, I think we see them sooner rather than later. Should be a fun spring. — bbrown While TreVeyon Henderson didn't start the sea- son as Ohio State's feature back, it didn't take too many games before he became the starter. He was just that good. If one (or both) of the true frosh establish themselves as the best, then they need to play. — coastfan ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE OFFENSIVE LINE ... If Sal Wormley is going to be the clear starter [at right guard] next year if healthy, then this is a starting group I can get excited about even if they still have a ton to prove. I love the left side with Olu Fashanu, who we may be overhyping but he looked legit against an SEC squad in the bowl game, and Landon Tengwall. It sounds like Juice Scruggs added weight, and having a big center with that much experience is huge. Add to it Wormley as the X factor and the reports of Caedan Wallace having things click (and he may have suf- fered from having to play through injuries last year) and, again, this is a group I feel should be pretty good. It's the depth, or lack of it, that takes your breath away, and Lord help us if there's an injury to that crew. Hunter Nourzad will be a huge addition to the interior, and maybe Vega Ioane will push to make the two-deep as well. But if Jimmy Christ doesn't step up, it really seems like we're going to have to take our starting left guard and move him to tackle if either Fashanu or Wallace goes down. That's scary. I assume we're very much portal shopping for anyone that could provide depth at tackle. — PSURam ON PENN STATE'S PERFORMANCE AT WRESTLING NATIONALS ... The finals were challenging and exciting. The opponents were valid opponents who did not give any- thing away or yield through the matches. A top night in college wrestling and an excellent night for Penn State. — bcrane1917 The only "sports dynasty" that I can think of that even comes close to what Cael/PSU has done is the UCLA basketball dynasty under John Wooden. UCLA won 10 national championships in 12 seasons, including a streak of seven national titles in a row. That streak will never be matched in basketball, but Cael has taken PSU wrestling to a level that also won't be matched ever again in all probability. AND that streak might be ongoing for the next several years ... ya never know. Phenomenal job by the entire wrestling program. — SJLuvsLions I don't know about you, but I run into PSU folks all the time who have no idea if our wrestling team is good this year. Somehow, we need to market PSU wrestling beyond the wrestling community. The culture, what it takes to be successful in life beyond the mat, could be a powerful lever. I am not a fan of Penn State's market- ing of the university as a whole. — SRATH This title just seems different. The team title was wrapped up quickly. Winning five individual titles was a clinic on how to get guys prepped up and down the roster. You have to keep something this special together, and that's going to be task 1 for the new AD. Plus, why wouldn't they want to walk into another guaranteed national title under their resume in Year 1? — HadMeAtBlackShoes 4 A P R I L 2 0 2 2 True freshman Nick Singleton is already working out with the Penn State football team, having enrolled in January alongside fellow frosh running back Kaytron Allen.
